Pepsico deadlock affecting farmers: Mann
A senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal, which is heading the ruling coalition in Punjab,on Friday said the shutdown of snacks and beverages major Pepsico's manufacturing plant in the state was affecting local potato growers.
"The current agitation by workers at Channo plant of Pepsico is affecting potato growers of Amloh, Nabha and Sangrur," SAD leader Emann Singh Mann said here.
He said it was strange that the Kisan Unions supporting the agitating workers were not considering the interest of farmers. However, he said the problems of the workers should also be looked into.
Pepsico India has shut its plant at Channo village in Sangrur since August 20 because of the industrial dispute.
Due to the rift between workers and management, over 1,000 potato growers and ancillary units such as edible oil maker, packaging company and rice meal supplier are feeling the heat.
