GUWAHATI: What is seen as congress attempts to win back tea tribe votes, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi directed the Commissioner & Secretary, Labour & Employment to ensure compliance of the minimum wage of Rs 169 per day as fixed in the Minimum Wages Act in all the industries, including the tea industry.

In two teas producing areas of Brahmaputra Valley and Barak workers per day get Rs 95 and Rs 75 respectively. Earlier Union commerce ministry has asked the states to pay notified minimum wages.
