NEW DELHI: Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh said the government has transferred the first instalment of Rs 2,000 under the PM-KISAN scheme to over 20 million farmers across the country. He said the farming community on ground is doing much better than what data suggests.

“We have transferred money to over 2 crore farmers. We are adding beneficiaries every day. Except West Bengal, all states are participating. Some are more proactive and few are little lax. But state governments, which are not participating, are enemies of farmers,” he said after addressing a workshop Kisan Ke Man Ki Baat.

He said the agriculture sector has performed well in the NDA regime. Farmers are on their path to double their income. “The growth is much more than what meets the eyes. We have moved from production-centric growth to income-centric growth. Farmers are growing crops which can give them more income. They are becoming prosperous,” he said.

He said the government set up a base for robust growth in last five years.

“Next five years will bring magnificent growth to the country. We are working together for the prosperity of farmers and agriculture sector,” he said.
