Over 18.51 lakh hectares to be covered under Kharif crop in Haryana

CHANDIGARH: A total area of over 18.51 lakh hectares would be covered under Kharif crop this season in Haryana with the total target of foodgrain production at about 52.33 lakh tonnes.

Of this, 12 lakh hectares would be brought under paddy. The other foodgrain crops produced during Kharif season are jwar, maize, bajra and pulses.

Jwar would be cultivated over an area of 70,000 hectares to achieve the production target of 42,000 tonnes and maize over an area of 20,000 hectares to produce 56,000 tonnes, an official release said here today.

Similarly, bajra would be cultivated over 5.10 lakh hectares to produce over 9.44 lakh tonnes and pulses over 51,000 hectares to produce 51,000 tonnes.

The maximum paddy crop over 1.69 lakh hectares would be cultivated in Hisar, followed by Kaithal where 1.54 lakh hectares area would be covered.

Similarly, maximum bajra crop would be cultivated over 1.10 lakh hectares of land in Bhiwani, followed by Mahendragarh where it would be cultivated over one lakh hectares.

The maximum of 18,000 hectares of land would be brought under jwar cultivation in Rohtak and 17,000 hectares would be covered in Jhajjar.

In case of pulses, Hisar would cover the largest area of 8,000 hectares, followed by Rohtak with 7,000 hectares.

The maximum area of 8,000 hectares would be brought under maize crop in Panchkula, followed by Yamunanagar and Ambala with 2,000 hectares each.
