Orissa on drive to tap funds for poultry, fishery
Notwithstanding bird flu scare in neighbouring West Bengal, Orissa government has launched a drive to attract investment in poultry and fisheries sectors which remained untapped.
A 30-member delagation of Team Orissa, comprising senior officials from industries, fisheries and animal resource development departments, sector specialists from UNIDO, NABARD and others, held a road show near WTO office in Mumbai over the week-end to woo potential investors to poultry and fisheries sector in Orissa, the sources said.
"While Orissa had been highly sucessful in attracting investment in mineral and power sector, there was no investment proposal for fisheries and poultry sector", Industries secretary Ashok Dalwai said.
The state, he said, had sought investment from within the country and abroad in poultry and fisheries sector.
"Orissa is a green field virgin state replete with natural resources, excellent infrastructure, skilled human resources and a pro-active government, all aligned to fructify the investors' dream," he said.
Orissa's geographical location was enviable considering its close proximity to Korea and it offered an excellent market for marine products, Dalwai said.
Official sources said the state government was keen to develop the entire value chain like infrastructure for production of marine products, processing, storing and other related logistics associated with poultry and fisheries.
