As per NHRDF data, the average wholesale price reported during the month of November this year in the markets of Nasik district is Rs 1,416-per quintal.

NEW DELHI: Prices of onion are stable as of now in the wholesale market of Nasik in Maharashtra, Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Kumar Balyan informed Parliament today.

Nasik is the major wholesale onion market in India. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Balyan said as per the National Horticultural Research and Development Foundation (NHRDF) estimates, the cost price incurred right from sowing up to transportation comes around Rs 800-1000 per quintal.

As per the wholesale onion price data available on Agmarknet portal and information received from Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board and NHRDF, while there was a fall in prices of onion from July onwards in the wholesale markets of Nashik, however, now the prices are stable, the minister said.

As per NHRDF data, the average wholesale price reported during the month of November this year in the markets of Nasik district is Rs 1,416-per quintal.

In 2013-14, the production of onion in the country was 197.68 lakh tonnes.
