PUNE: A team of the Delhi government completed survey of agricultural produce market committees (APMCs) in Nashik district to explore the possibilities of buying onion to augment the supplies in the national capital.

In a meeting with the representatives of Delhi government, the major market committees in Nashik district showed their preparedness to send 10 tonne onion every day to Delhi.

However, the wholesale onion prices in Delhi started declining as supplies from Rajasthan increased. The average price of fresh onion in Delhi on Friday came down to Rs 42/kg. "A few trucks of onion from Afganistan also arrived through Wagha border cooling the prices in North India," said a trade source.

As a downward trend has already started in onion prices in New Delhi, onion taken from Maharashtra is likely to be more expensive than the onion available in Delhi.

Meanwhile, speaking at a public function in Pune, Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan denied any hoarding of onion being taking place in the state.
