After declining for a few days post-government decision to impose MEP, onion prices have again increased to Rs 40/kg in Maharashtra.

Onion prices continue to remain high due to less arrivals
PUNE: After declining for a few days post-government decision to impose MEP, onion prices have again increased to Rs 40/kg in Maharashtra from last four days.

The average wholesale onion prices at Lasalgaon are Rs 40/kg to Rs 41/kg from last four days. ""The prices seem to remain stable at this level now,"" said a traders from Lasalgaon APMC.

Average wholesale prices at Pimpalgaon are about Rs 41/kg to Rs 42/kg while the average prices at at Pune APMC Rs 36/kg from last few days.

The daily arrivals at Lasalgaon are 4000 quintal to 5000 quintal. Farmers and traders expect the prices to remain high for next one month. Onion stocks are less by about 5% to 10% this year due to the drought like conditions in major onion producing states last year.
