Narmada project likely to be completed by 2010

The Narmada dam project is likely to be completed by 2010, the chairman of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL), P K Laheri, on Wednesday said.

AHMEDABAD: The Narmada dam project is likely to be completed by 2010, the chairman of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL), P K Laheri, on Wednesday said.

"As per our present calculations, the Narmada project is likely to be completed by 2010 and by then the state's agricultural production would have doubled to about Rs 35,000 crore," said Laheri. He was speaking on `Narmada project - Lifeline of Gujarat' at a function organised by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.

'"By June 2007, its 23 branch canals (out of a total of 38) will be completed, including the 360 kilometer long Kutch canal," Laheri said. He said the construction of vast network of canals and sub-canals involved 10 lakh structures of various kinds which have often delayed the construction schedule.
