Nafed to dispose of 53,201 bales of cotton

Cooperative major National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (Nafed) plans to dispose of 53,201 bales of cotton stored in different warehouses in Maharashtra.

NEW DELHI: Cooperative major National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (Nafed) plans to dispose of 53,201 bales of cotton stored in different warehouses in Maharashtra.

The cooperative has floated total six tenders depending on the location of warehouses. Bids will close on March 4 and the decision on the tender will be taken on the same day, according to the tender notice published on the website.

Traders, authorised brokers, millers and exporters can participate in the bidding process, it said, adding that a bidder should quote for a minimum quantity of 10,000 bales (One bale is equal to 170 kg).

Cotton procured from Kharif 2008-09 crop year will be offloaded. A sample cotton will be displayed tomorrow at Cotton Association of India, Mumbai, it added.

Currently, cotton is stored in warehouses situated in Arvi, Majalgoan, Lasur, Jalgaon, Amalner and Chalisgaon in Maharashtra.

Nafed, which has so far procured 35 lakh bales from states including Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, is disposing of cotton through tenders and directly at the electronic spot exchange, NSEL.
