Mozambique seeks technical expertise from Coconut Development Board

Mozambique has sought technical expertise from the Coconut Development Board in coconut cultivation, processing and elimination of diseases affecting the palms.

KOCHI: Mozambique has sought technical expertise from the Coconut Development Board (CDB) here in coconut cultivation, processing and elimination of diseases affecting the palms.

The country wants the board's help in eradicating yellowing disease in palms, controlling attack of rhinoceros beetle in the major cultivating areas in Mozambique and replanting the area with disease tolerant coconut varieties.

A delegation from the country led by Agriculture Minister Jose Condugua Antonio Pacheco visited the board headquarters in Kochi and held discussion with chairman T K Jose and other senior officials on this. Mozambique is also exploring possible areas of co-operation between the two countries.

Mozambique minister said 30 % of the coconut plantations in the country has been affected by leaf yellowing disease. CDB has assured the Mozambique delegation of all necessary help in tackling the disease. The official salso discussed areas in which the countries can exchange their ideas for mutual benefit.
