Marwal lift irrigation scheme, a dream project aiming to boost the economic scenario in the region, was inaugurated on Wednesday at Chadoora in Budgam district.

SRINAGAR: Marwal lift irrigation scheme, a dream project aiming to boost the economic scenario in the region, was inaugurated on Wednesday at Chadoora in Budgam district.

Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Public Health Engineering and Irrigation Mohammad Dilawar Mir, while inaugurating the prestigious Rs 25.16 crore Mir Mustafa Memorial Marwal lift irrigation project said it would provide assured irrigation facilities to about 12,000 acres of land during kharif and 7,000 acres during rabi season.

Mir said provision of assured irrigation facilities to the farmers was one of the top priorities of the government keeping in view the vast agriculture potential in the Valley. The scheme would contribute in making the state as foodgrain self-sufficient state.

He said construction of Rs nine crore Hayatpora water supply scheme would be taken up shortly to address the drinking water shortage in the area.
