Markfed to supply DAP at old rates to farmers

The state govt had already fixed a target of 1.28 lakh tonne of DAP to be supplied through Markfed in cooperative sector for sowing of crops in ensuing kharif season.

AHMEDABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, has directed Punjab State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd (Markfed) to ensure supply of DAP to the farmers through the Cooperative Societies across the state at old rates during the current Kharif season thereby benefiting them to the tune of Rs 74.82 crore.

A spokesperson of the CMO said that the Markfed had initiated arrangements well in advance during February and March this year and accumulated 1.29 lakh tonne of DAP till date. The state government had already fixed a target of 1.28 lakh tonne of DAP to be supplied through Markfed in the cooperative sector for the sowing of crops in the ensuing kharif season.

Companies supplying DAP had fixed its rate at Rs 24,000 per tonne from Rs 18,200 per tonne thereby hiking the price of DAP by Rs 1200 per bag of 50 Kg. w.e.f. June 1, 2012 from Rs 910 per bag.
