Malaysia to increase cooperation in palm oil and other sectors

India and Malaysia plan to enhance cooperation in oil palm and agriculture sectors. Discussions include the National Mission on Edible Oil, market access issues, institutionalization of agriculture cooperation, and digital technology in plantations.

India and Malaysia have decided to increase cooperation between the two countries in the field of palm oil and other sectors, after agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met with Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Plantations and Commodities of Malaysia on Thursday.

The Malaysian minister met his Indian counterpart to discuss opportunities to deepen the bilateral agriculture cooperation between India and Malaysia.

"The sides expressed the desire to collaborate on the National Mission on Edible Oil- Oil Palm, discussed the market access issues related to agriculture and allied products, institutionalization of the cooperation in agriculture, and application of digital technology in the plantation sector, " according to a statement released by the ministry of agriculture.


India is one of the largest importer of vegetable oils importing a significant quantity from Malaysia.

India buys palm oil mainly from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, while it imports soy oil and sunflower oil from Argentina, Brazil, Russia and Ukraine.
