Madhya Pradesh government to continue loans to farmers at zero per cent via co-operatives

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to continue with its current policy of providing loans to farmers at zero per cent rate through primary credit cooperative societies till June 30.

According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Narottam Mishra the government has also written a letter to the Centre to give its approval for extending the scheme beyond June 30 also and are hopeful of getting its nod on the issue.

When asked if the Centre did not grant its approval for the scheme, the Minister said that it will not happen and the scheme will continue under any circumstance.

Madhya Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan had introduced the concept of zero per cent short-term loan for farmers for the first time in the country on July 14, 2012, through cooperative banks.
