Loan waiver to benefit 29 lakh farmers in Aurangabad division
The district central co-operative, land development banks and several urban co-operative banks have disbursed agriculture loans to 29,02429 farmers.

AURANGABAD: The farmer loan waiver package announced in the general budget this year will provide relief to over 29 lakh farmers of Aurangabad division comprising Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli and Aurangabad.
The district central co-operative, land development banks and several urban co-operative banks have disbursed agriculture loans to 29,02429 farmers. These banks had prepared their primary report of loans given by them.
According to the report, district central co-operative banks have given loan of Rs 921.27 crore to 28,80,253 marginal farmers.
In Aurangabad district, loans of Rs 713.20 crore have been given to 2.44 lakh marginal farmers. Land development banks in the region have disbursed loan of Rs 145.82 crore to 17,695 marginal farmers. The 24 urban co-operative banks of the region have disbursed agriculture loan of Rs 12.31 crore to 4,481 marginal farmers.
As per the government's decision, farmers holding land less than 5 hectares are eligible for the loan waiver.
However, the demand to increase the limit of 5 hectares land has been raised. If the demand is met, loan of Rs 1,700 crore would also be written off in the region.
As many as 332 farmers ended life in the region and of these 174 committed suicide for their inability to pay debt and crop failure while 136 ended life for some other reasons.
Remaining 21 cases of suicides are pending with the district-level committee for the verification of documents. Compensation of Rs one lakh was paid to the family of each deceased.
