KV Thomas to meet state food ministers to discuss food bill

New Delhi: Union Food Minister KV Thomas is slated to meet state food ministers on Wednesday to have detailed consultations on the National Food Security Bill before it is tabled once again in Parliament. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 22, 2011.

It was then referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on January 5, 2012, which has made certain recommendations regarding the extent of coverage, entitlements, and strengthening of the infrastructure for implementing the programme.

"The minister will discuss proposals made in the Bill and further action for finalisation of the Bill based on the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee," said a ministry official.
