J&k govt to promote cattle rearing

Infrastructure is being set up to promote cattle rearing and allied occupations in rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir keeping in view its huge employment potential, Minister for Consumer Affairs Taj Mohi-ud-din has said.

JAMMU: Infrastructure is being set up to promote cattle rearing and allied occupations in rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir keeping in view its huge employment potential, Minister for Consumer Affairs Taj Mohi-ud-din has said.

Animal and sheep husbandry are a major source of income for rural and hilly inhabitants and focused attention is being paid for modernising cattle rearing techniques, he said addressing a series of public meetings during his four-day tour of mountainous districts of Kishtwar and Doda.

New live stock centres are also being opened in far off areas to introduce new breeds of sheep and cattle, he said adding 40 educated youth would be selected from Doda and Kishtwar areas for imparting training in veterinary sciences.

Keeping in view the scope of rearing sheep and cattle in these districts, new high breed sheep and cattle would be introduced to boost the economy of the locals in these areas.

The meeting was informed that the daily milk production of Kishtwar district has reached 1.10 lakh metric tones, while wool and mutton production has gone upto 23 lakh kgs and six lakh kgs respectively per annum.
