SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir government will launch eight schemes to educate the farmers about the latest technology in cattle rearing and livestock in remote and hilly areas of the state.
"The government is going to introduce eight schemes in far flung and hilly areas to acquaint the farmers with the latest technology on cattle rearing," Minister for Animal Husbandry Taj Mohi-ud-Din said at the annual general meeting of veterinary doctors here on Thursday.
The minister said such areas, which have not been covered under Para VAT Scheme, would be brought under the ambit of new schemes, adding that two new laboratories are being set up, one each at Srinagar and Jammu, for increasing the mutton production in the state.
Mohi-ud-din emphasised the need for upgrading the animal husbandry sector on the laid down policies of the government at ground level so that self sufficiency of mutton, milk, eggs and wool production is achieved.
On the occasion, Director Animal Husbandry said, the annual milk production in state has touched 806 metric tonnes while Rs 32 lakh revenue has been earned by the department.
