India's sugar production till December 15 trails by 10.7%
"Maharashtra had the highest share of 24.25 lakh tonnes, followed by Uttar Pradedh, which has produced 22.11 lakh tonnes. Karnataka is at the third place with production of 16.95 lakh tonnes of sugar," said ISMA in a media release.

The total sugar production of India till December 15 is 74.05 lakh tonnes as against 82.95 lakh tonnes on same date of last year.
"Maharashtra had the highest share of 24.25 lakh tonnes, followed by Uttar Pradedh, which has produced 22.11 lakh tonnes. Karnataka is at the third place with production of 16.95 lakh tonnes of sugar," said ISMA in a media release.
The sugar production of Maharashtra and Karnataka is expected to decline in 2023-24 as these states have received deficient rainfall.
According to the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) which represents the co-operative sugar industry of the country, the sugar recovery of Uttar Pradesh at 9.30% is higher than last year when it was 8.30%.
However, the sugar recovery of Maharashtra at 8.40% is lower than the previous year, when it was 9.10%.
The sugar mills from Karnataka have also reported lower recovery.
