KOLKATA: Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has urged all the states to implement the agriculture reforms announced by Union finance minister in the larger interest of farmers.

In a release issued by ICC it said that the proposed amendment in Essential Commodities Act, enabling farmers to get the best price for their produce, be it local, national or global markets is a watershed in India’s economic history as it removes disintermediation and takes the market to the farmer.

The Rs. 1 lakh crore Agro Infrastructure fund would have a beneficial effect on supply as well as demand. The provision of Rs 50,000 crore for Animal Husbandry and Fishery is a welcome step as it enhances the scope for alternate income avenues for rural population. The state governments have an important role to play since agriculture is a state subject.
