India has excellent food security: M S Swaminathan

Chairman of the National Commission on Farmers M S Swaminathan said on Sunday that the food security situation in the country was perhaps the best in the world.

MUMBAI: Chairman of the National Commission on Farmers M S Swaminathan said on Sunday that the food security situation in the country was perhaps the best in the world.

"India is at the commanding heights of food security situation...We have some 60 million tonnes of wheat and rice in storage. Perhaps no other country in the world has such security," Swaminathan, one of pioneers of green revolution, said here.

Swaminathan was talking at the release of 'From Hungry Nation To Agro Power', a compilation of articles on late Annasaheb Shinde, former union minister of state for agriculture.
