IG International to import 7 apple varieties from US organic fruit company

KOLKATA: Fruit importing firm IG International has decided to import 7 varieties of apples from Stemlit Growers, the Washington-based leading organic fruit growing, packing and shipping company, keeping in mind that apple consumption picks up in winter.

With an aim to import 20,000 MT of apples in the new season, IG International in the last season imported seven different varieties of this fruit from Stemilt Growers – Red Delicious, Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Pinata, Pink lady, Honeycrisp, organic variety with the first two remaining the hero varieties. It will also import organic apples to cater to the preferences of health-conscious Indians. With this season, IG International completes 10 years of its strong and successful association with Stemilt Growers.

Commenting on the occasion, Tarun Arora, Director, IG International said, “Over the last few years, India’s consumption of international varieties of apples has risen significantly. Especially, in winters, we witness a drastic increase in the demand for apples in the country. Considering the nutritional properties it contains, the fruit has always been on the recommendation list of health experts. With this in mind, we decided to import as many as 7 varieties of apples from Stemilt Growers to India.”
