ICAR-IVRI ranked in QS World University Rankings 2026, placed in 51–100 band for veterinary science

The ICAR–Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, has secured a place in the QS World University Rankings for Veterinary Science, marking a historic milestone for India’s veterinary research ecosystem. The recognition highlights the institute’s sustained excellence in veterinary education, cutting-edge research, technology development, and its critical role in advancing animal health and livestock development in the country.

The institute has also consistently earned national recognition, securing top positions in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), underscoring its academic quality, research output, and institutional excellence. Established in 1889, IVRI has a glorious legacy spanning more than a century (136 Years). Over time, it has evolved into India’s premier veterinary research institution and a Deemed University.

“The inclusion of ICAR–IVRI in the QS World University Rankings for Veterinary Science marks a major milestone for India’s veterinary education and research landscape. It places IVRI among leading global institutions and signals India’s growing presence in international academia. The recognition reflects the institute’s strong research output, academic reputation, and global visibility,” said Dr M L Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).


IVRI has produced generations of eminent veterinarians and scientists who have made significant contributions to animal health, food security, and public health in India and abroad. The institute has played a pioneering role in the diagnosis, prevention, and control of major livestock diseases and has developed important vaccines, diagnostic techniques, and disease management strategies for several economically important animal diseases.

Notably, IVRI made significant contributions to national efforts that led to the eradication of Rinderpest, one of the most devastating cattle diseases in history, marking a landmark achievement in veterinary science and disease control. These contributions have substantially strengthened India’s livestock sector and rural economy.
Beyond research, IVRI has made remarkable contributions to human resource development through postgraduate and doctoral education, professional training, and national capacity building programs. Its academic excellence is further reflected in its accreditation with an A++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, the highest grade awarded by NAAC.
