Himachal Govt to set up cold store for apples in Sonepat
To prevent the apple growers of Himachal Pradesh to sell their produce at a throw away price during off season, the Himachal government is constructing a capacity cold storage near Delhi-Haryana border in the district.
The Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing and Consumers Federation Limited is constructing a cold storage on at Kundli village along the Haryana-Delhi border of in this district, officials said on Wednesday.
The 8,000 metric tonnes capacity cold storage will help the apple growers of the Himachal Pradesh to store their produce for export also, they said.
It will also enable the apple-growers to store their produce and get the remunerative price in the off-season, during the months June, July, October and November.
Earlier, they were forced to sell their produce at a throw-away price due to non-availability of a storing facility near the national Capital, they said.
The cold store will be equipped with modern equipment where apples will be stored at controlled atmosphere, they said, adding the construction work will be completed before the next apple season.
