Haryana to set up 2,000 Fisheries

Chandigarh: In order to give a major fillip to the Fish farming in the State and doubling the farmers’ income, Haryana Government has decided to set up 2000 fish farms across the State. Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Fisheries Minister, Jai Parkash Dalal said this while was presiding over the meeting of officials of the Fisheries Department here today.

In the meeting, the Agriculture Minister reviewed the schemes being run by the department and also directed the officers to prepare an action plan for the new financial year.

Directing the officers, the Agriculture Minister said that there are vast opportunities for fish farming in Haryana as geographically, saltwater and waterlogged areas are available in the State; therefore these areas should be used for fish farming.


The Minister said that by promoting fisheries in the State, the unemployed youth would also get ample employment opportunities. He said that along with preparing fish farms, processing units should also be set for storage and processing facilities as per the exportation standards. Apart from this, the facility of refrigerated vans should also be provided, so that farmers can take their produce from their farms to the big fish markets.

Directing the officers, Mr. JP Dalal said that along with the soil testing laboratories which are being set up in the Mandis, water testing labs should also be established in these Mandis to check the water quality. He said that a documentary should be made on the success stories of the farmers doing fish farming so that the youth can be encouraged and made aware of the same.
