Haryana Agriculture Department distributes turbo happy seeders to farmers

The Haryana Agriculture Department, distributed five turbo happy seeders to farmers in Karnal on Wednesday. Seeders are useful in saving ground water and are capable of eradicating the menace of stubble burning as wheat can be seeded simultaneously after paddy harvesting.

"The moisture is available in the field and hence there is no need to water the fields for seeding of wheat now,"says Roshan Lal, financial commissioner and principal secretary-agriculture, Haryana. Roshan is in-charge of Agriculture Technology Service Provider ( ATSP) formed under Dunar- IFC water saving project . He added that the seeders can rule out burning of stubble completely which has been causing adverse effect on the environment. Renu Phulia, Deputy Commissioner, Karnal says the latest technology will go a long way to promote water efficient technology in this region which contributes 70 % foodgrains to the Central Pool."

It is an important time when corporate sector should come forward like this to extend a helping hand as they can very well supplement the efforts of public sector to check depletion of ground water taking at an alarming rate,:she says. Surender Gupta CMD Dunar Foods Limited informed that the machines have been handed over to ATSPs for free and farmers can use them at a nominal rate on custom hire basis.
