Onion prices would increase further if the government did not intervene to curb them, Congress consumer protection cell state chairman Kanhaiyalal Gidwani said here today.

MUMBAI: Onion prices would increase further if the government did not intervene to curb them, Congress consumer protection cell state chairman Kanhaiyalal Gidwani said here today.

"Onion prices, which were earlier Rs eight per kg, have now risen to around Rs 30 per kg", Gidwani told reporters at Mantralaya.

"Steps should be taken to bring down the prices to around Rs 10 per kg", he said.

The government should also make available 15 lakh tonne sugar in open market to meet growing demand, Gidwani added.
