Government to promote horticulture in HP

Himachal Pradesh is planning to give special emphasis to horticulture in the state to project it as state fruit.

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh is planning to give special emphasis to horticulture in the state with an aim to project it as a "fruit state".

Horticulture minister Narinder Bragta has said that innovative technologies would be made available to farmers with an aim to promote horticulture at a faster pace in the state.

The state government would also take steps to include apple in the list of fruit insurance scheme, he said at Jubal Kotkaih constituency in Shimla district yesterday.

He said Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal would raise the matter with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in this regard.

The minister said the state government would also request the Union and the Delhi government to end 8 per cent commission levied on apple growers of the hill state.
