FTA talks with EAEU likely to take up agri, marine goods
New Delhi: India is expected to take up compliance and certification requirements aimed to ease exports of marine goods, agricultural items and processed foods with the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), during the second round of talks for the proposed free trade pact end of this month in Moscow, said an official.

Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan comprise the EAEU.

"The focus will be easier compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) and technical barriers to trade," said an official, adding that these act as non-tariff barriers.

SPS are rules designed to protect human, plant and animal health while technical barriers to trade include product standards, labelling requirements, packaging rules, quality certification, and testing procedures.

Indian trade negotiators are expected to visit Moscow for the talks, the terms of reference of which were signed last year. The first round of negotiations was held in November 2025.
