Floriculture to be brought under agriculture
The Centre said nursery and floriculture are likely to come under the definition of agriculture.
Besides, the Delhi government is also planning to set up a modern floriculture market near airport, to facilitate flower exports.
"Our efforts are to ultimately bring nursery and floriculture under the definition of agriculture," Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said here while inaugurating Flora Expo 2007.
Terming floriculture and nursery as blooming sectors, he admitted that there are some problems in bringing them under agriculture.
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit had announced setting up a modern market for floriculture near the airport.
Pawar said there was shortage and non-availability of proper infrastructure in Delhi, which is the one of the major markets for flowers.
The state government has identified 15-20 acres of land near airport and details of the setting up the flower market is being worked out, Dikshit said.
