Fish market to come up in Srinagar soon

A similar fish market is in the completion stage at Narwal in Jammu, he said while inspecting Laribal Fish Farm at Dachigam on the outskirts of the city. Zargar was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Fisheries and Sanik Kalyan minister Jamuna Neshat.
Appreciating the efforts of the fisheries department, Zargar said the need of the hour was to promote pisiculture in the state to the extent that it could become a major source of employment generation.
He said the sector has vast business potential and appealed to the unemployed youth to set up private fish farms, and added that the department is providing all facilities including financial assistance and technical guidance.
Zargar said by flourishing pisiculture, the tourism sector would also get a boost. Farmers could also establish fish farms as part of diversification of their activities, he said.
He asked the Principal Secretary of Fisheries Department and Director Fisheries to speed up the process for establishing fish market at Srinagar as a hub of fish business.
Enumerating the achievements of the sector, Director Fisheries T Angchok informed the visiting ministers the fish production in the state has touched to 19,000 tons and the department has earned a revenue of Rs 2.11 crore during the previous fiscal.
