PUNE: The fertilizer supply position in Maharashtra and elsewhere was now improving, after the supply lines had been dislocated due to the Gujjars' agitation in Rajasthan, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said on Saturday.

Pawar said he would be holding a meeting with fertilizer producers and his ministry would try to chalk out district-wise requirements to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

The minister said the government had purchased 222 lakh tonne wheat and had a buffer stock that could last for one and a half year. Similar measures were being taken to ensure adequate stocks of rice, he added.

The UPA government had ensured a better agricultural growth rate at 4.5 as against 1.5 during the previous NDA rule, Pawar claimed.
