BB Mehta said that the initiative will help sugar industry in Uttar Pradesh to overcome issues like rising sugarcane cost and low sugar recovery.

LUCKNOW: In order to increase sugar cane crop yield and help farmers increase their income, the Dalmia Bharat Sugar Industries Ltd has undertook an exercise to educate farmers about new farming techniques. It organised a roadshow in which farmers are told about new ploughing techniques, judicious use of fertilisers, soil testing, better management of crop so as to improve productivity.

CEO, DBSIL, BB Mehta said that the initiative will help sugar industry in Uttar Pradesh to overcome issues like rising sugarcane cost and low sugar recovery, due to which many sugar companies are thinking about relocating to other states. He said that it would also help farmers improve their income levels producing more sugar cane at lesser costs.

He said that they aim to improve the sugar cane crop yield from the current 150-200 quintal per acre to 350-450 quintal per acre, which directly increases the income of the farmers up to three times their current earnings.

Mehta said that the 15 days road show reached out to one lakh farmers covering 330 villages in Uttar Pradesh around the three sugar plants of DBSIL in Ramgarh, Jawaharpur-Sitapur and Nigohi-Shahjahanpur.
