CIFA demands 25% budgetary allocation
The Consortium of Indian Farmers Association on Monday demanded 25 per cent of budgetary allocation for the agriculture sector to ensure the desired four per cent growth for the sector.
NEW DELHI: The Consortium of Indian Farmers Association on Monday demanded 25 per cent of budgetary allocation for the agriculture sector to ensure the desired four per cent growth for the sector.
"We demand that budgetary allocation for agriculture in the Finance Bill 2007-08, should be in proportion to its share in the Gross Domestic Product," CIFA secretary general P Chengal Reddy said.
He said the demand for 25 per cent budgetary allocation is in tune with the sector's equivalent contribution to the overall economy.
CIFA, a national initiative to bring farmer and industry under one platform, will organise a two-day national farmer’s conclave from December 2.
The Pre-Budget farmers’ conclave would discuss in depth as to how the allocation could be raised immediately from the next budget itself, he added.
Meanwhile, CIFA has formed various pressure groups for sugarcane, horticulture, aqua-farming, rice, spices, tobacco, oilseeds, cotton and wheat and has drawn the wish list for the forthcoming agriculture policy and finance bill.
