Centre okays sunflower seed procurement in Karnataka, extends purchase window for gram in Maharashtra
The central government has approved the purchase of sunflower seed from Karnataka for the 2026 rabi season. This move ensures farmers receive a minimum support price. In Maharashtra, the procurement limit for gram has been significantly increased.

In Maharasthra, the maximum procurement limit for gram has been increased to 8,19,882 tonne with purchase window extended by 30 days.
The procurement will be undertaken under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), which kicks in when mandi prices fall below the MSP.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the decision will enable sunflower growing farmers in Karnataka receive a fair and remunerative price for their produce.
This will also enable those Maharasthra farmers who were unable to sell their produce within the originally stipulated timeframe.
More farmers will now be able to avail of the benefit of MSP and will not be compelled to sell their produce at lower rates under market pressure, he said in a statement.
