Centre to release 2nd tranche of Rs 1,183 cr to five states under two agri schemes

New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday approved release of second tranche of Rs 1,183.11 crore funds under two central schemes to five states -- Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Tripura.

According to an official statement, Chouhan held a review meeting through video conferencing with agriculture ministers and senior officials from the five states. Agriculture Secretary Atish Chandra also attended the meeting.

The minister "approved the release of the second 'mother sanction' totalling Rs 1,183.11 crore under the 'Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana' (PM-RKVY) and 'Krishonnati Yojana' (KY)"


The funds will be used to enhance farmers' income, reduce cultivation costs, and expand the use of modern technologies in agriculture.

Andhra Pradesh will receive Rs 409.40 crore; Tamil Nadu (Rs 355.88 crore); Odisha (Rs 219.65 crore); Uttarakhand (Rs 106.67 crore); and Tripura (Rs 91.51 crore).

The funds will enable states to promote micro-irrigation ('Per Drop More Crop') - leading to water conservation and increased yields - and provide small farmers with subsidies for modern machinery under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM).

Chouhan urged all states to expedite the implementation of these initiatives on the ground so that the benefits of the schemes reach every eligible farmer in a timely manner.
