Centre approves Rs 13.33 cr for agriculture in Himachal
The Union Agriculture ministry has approved Rs 13.33 crore for crop improvement and agriculture mechanisation among others in Himachal Pradesh.
The fund has been approved under Macro Management of Agriculture for the current year, state Director of Agriculture J C Rana said in a statement on Monday.
Giving details of the fund allocation, Rana said Rs 3.86 crore has been approved for the crop improvement programme while Rs 1.78 crore has been earmarked for agriculture mechanisation.
Moreover, Rs 2.46 crore has been allocated for integrated nutrient management and watershed development programme has been sanctioned Rs 3 crore. Another Rs 1.52 crore has been set aside for water conservation/harvesting and lifting.
Organic farming and crop diversification will have Rs 29 lakh and Rs 40.25 lakh respectively.
The director said his department is promoting organic farming through large-scale production of vermicompost for which vermiculture is being provided free of cost.
Rana said farmers will be provided with high-yielding seeds to increase their productivity during the season.
He added that subsidies of Rs 600 on maize, Rs 800 on pulses and Rs 200 on paddy per quintal were being provided.
Highlighting other programmes launched by the department for increasing farm income and employment, he said the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) programme has been extended to all districts.
To augment ATMA and help farmers acquire latest agricultural technology, the department has earmarked Rs 4.41 crore, he said.
