CCEA approves restructured seed scheme

The CCEA Thursday gave its approval for changes in the restructured scheme for development and strengthening of infrastructure facilities for production and distribution of quality seeds.

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday gave its approval for changes in the restructured scheme for development and strengthening of infrastructure facilities for production and distribution of quality seeds.

The restructured scheme has become operational from the financial year 2005-06, an official release said.

CCEA approved the "inter component" changes within the approved 10th Plan outlay.

The objectives of the scheme are to provide quality seeds of varieties and hybrids to farmers, developing infrastructure facilities for quality seed production, involvement of private sector in seed production, promotion of biotechnology applications in agriculture and training and awareness of farmers and seed quality enforcement staff.
