Even as political leaders scrambled to claim credit for the Rs 60,000-crore loan waiver announced for farmers, the bankers in the region are pondering over to understand the fine print of the mega debt relief package.

KOLHAPUR: Even as political leaders scrambled to claim credit for the Rs 60,000-crore loan waiver announced for farmers, the bankers in the region are pondering over to understand the fine print of the mega debt relief package.

A meeting of the directors of Kolhapur District Central Bank (KDCC,) was held here last evening to discuss the loan waiver announced by Finance Minsiter P Chidambaram while presenting the Union Budget in Parliament.

However, after the meeting the bank directors said it was still not clear as to whether the dues for last year only or all the dues till date will be covered by the loan waiver.

Over four lakh farmers are expected to benfit by the package in this Western Maharashtra district.

Meanwhile, leaders from Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, coalition partners in Maharashtra's DF Government, Shiv Sena, and Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana were busy claiming credit for the largest lone write-off for farmers in the country's history.
