CHANDIGARH: Haryana saw more than 52.92 lakh metric tonnes (mt) of paddy arrival in the grain market until yesterday during the current kharif season as against about 40.09 lakh mt during the same period last year.

Of the total arrival, government procurement agencies have purchased more than 42.03 lakh mt while millers and dealers have gone for over 10.89 lakh mt, a spokesman of the Food and Supplies Department said here today.

The department has purchased over 19.14 lakh mt of paddy, more than Hafed's 14.87 lakh mt, Haryana Agro-industries Corporation's over 4.34 lakh mt and Haryana Warehousing Corporation's over 3.66 lakh mt.

Karnal had received the maximum at 11.51 lakh mt.

The spokesman said farmers have been advised to clean and dry their harvest properly before bringing it to the market so that they do not have to face any storage issues due to high moisture content.
