GUWAHATI: The famed aromatic 'Joha' rice, unique to Assam, is being exported to the UK, Germany and Switzerland, official sources said.

The first consignment would contain 60 metric tonnes of the flavoured organic Joha rice, official sources today said.

The export is expected to boost at least 154 farmers initially, they added.

The scented rice, known as the 'aromatic rice' to the world, had been produced without fertilisers or any other chemicals to meet international standards.

The rice would be procured from farmers at the rate of Rs 15.50 per kg for the paddy with the price reviewed annually.

Agriculture minister Pramilla Rani Brahma has taken special initiative for export of Joha.
