NEW DELHI: Prices of arhar and malka today drifted at the wholesale pulses market, largely supported by increased arrivals after government's measures to curb rising prices and boost supplies amid fall in demand at prevailing levels.

Traders said increased supplies in the market after the government intensified raids against hoarding to curb soaring prices.

They said besides, considerable fall in demand at current levels, selling of pulses by the government at cheaper rates at Kendria Bhandar also helped prices to fall.

Meanwhile, the Centre will start procuring 40,000 tonnes of pulses directly from farmers through NAFED and SFAC starting November. The procured pulses will be used to create buffer stock.

In the national capital, arhar fell by Rs 400 to Rs 11,700-12,000 per quintal.

Malka local and best quality declined by Rs 500 each to Rs 7,800-8,250 and Rs 7,900-8,300 per quintal respectively.
