17.72 lakh tonne sugar released for July

The government has decided to make available 17.72 lakh tonne of sugar for the month of July 2011.

NEW DELHI: The government has decided to make available 17.72 lakh tonne of sugar (levy sugar - 2.12 lakh tonne and non-levy sugar - 15.60 lakh tonne) for the month of July 2011. This quantity of 17.72 lakh tonne is sufficient to meet the internal demand of sugar for the month of July, 2011.

Stating this in a press statement here, the food, PDS and civil supplies ministry said that the sugar factory should sell/ deliver and dispatch the entire non-levy (free sale) quantity including the sugar processed out of imported raw sugar released for the month of July, 2011 as specified in the table before July 31, 2011.

The statment also said that in view of the difficulties earlier faced by sugar mills in selling the free sale sugar quota for June (both for indigenous sugar and sugar processed out of raw sugar), the government has extended the sale period for this by an additional 15 days i.e. upto 15th July 2011.
