116 lakh tons paddy procured in Punjab
Government agencies and private millers procured more than 116 lakh tons paddy in Punjab till last evening, an official spokesman said here on Thursday.
Of the total 115,72,027 tons paddy procured in all the centres in the state, government agencies procured 95,04,191 tons (82.1 per cent), whereas millers lifted 20,67,836 tons (17.9 per cent).
Pungrain procured 24,15,190 tons (25.4 per cent) whereas Markfed purchased 22,48,136 tons (23.7 per cent, Punsum 24,09,774 tons (25.4 per cent), PSWC 12,68,986 tons (13.4 per cent), PAIC 10.33.024 tons (10.9 per cent) till yesterday, he said.
Central government agency FCI had been able to procure 1,23,081 tons (1.3 per cent), the spokesman said.
He said Ludhiana, with procurement of 15,28,513 tons, tops the list of procurers followed by Sangrur (14,10,176 tons) and Patiala (12,17,898 tons).
The farmers have been paid Rs 6,217.48 crore for paddy procured by government agencies till October 30. Different government agencies have been allocated Rs 7,089.74 crore to ensure smooth purchase.
The state government has set up 1,544 procurement centres, the spokesman added.
