111 get awards for excellence in farm research
Food and agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on Wednesday honoured 111 awardees under 12 different categories for excellence in farm research at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Award ceremony-2008 in New Delhi.
The list of award winners consists of four institutions, 103 scientists, 3 farmers and one journalist. Of the 103 scientists, 13 are women.
The Best Institution Award went to the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute of Kochi and Vivekanand Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan of Almora in Uttarakhand. Among agricultural universities, Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University in Hyderabad has won the best institution Award.
Chaudhary Devi Lal Outstanding All India Coordinated Research Project Award has been bagged by the Research Project on Tuber Crops, Kerala. The project has developed varieties of tuber crops.
Jawaharlal Nehru Awards for outstanding PhD thesis went to 18 scientists, out of which four awards have been bagged young women scientists.
The Jagjivan Ram Kisan Puruskar in Crop Production has been awarded to two farmers, one from Andhra Pradesh and the other from Maharashtra. The NG Ranga Award for Diversified Agriculture has been awarded to a farmer from Andhra Pradesh.
Seven teachers have been selected for the Bharat Ratna Dr C Subramaniam Award in the fields of crop science, resource management, engineering and food technology, veterinary and animal sciences and social sciences.
Minister of State for Agriculture Kantilal Bhuria was also present in the award ceremony.
