Tel Aviv, Aug 20 (IANS) Even as truce talks between Israel and Hamas are taking place, the former carried out an airstrike targeting a Hezbollah arms depot in Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley.
Israel announced on Tuesday that it had destroyed several Hezbollah weapons storage facilities in the Beqaa region and killed Hussein Ali Hussein, a member of Hezbollah’s Rocket and Missile Unit, in southern Lebanon. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) stated that the airstrike targeted a terrorist cell operating from a Hezbollah military structure in Tayibe.

"A terrorist cell operating from a Hezbollah military structure in the area of Tayibe was eliminated by IAF fighter jets," read a statement by the IDF.

The IDF's statement noted that "secondary explosions" were observed after the airstrike, suggesting the presence of significant amounts of weaponry in the targeted facilities.

Last month, a similar incident occurred when an Israeli airstrike hit an arms depot in the southern coastal village of Adloun. The strike caused a series of explosions that impacted nearby villages with shrapnel.

According to an AFP tally, the ongoing cross-border violence has resulted in the deaths of at least 497 people in Lebanon, including fighters and 95 civilians. On the Israeli side, the reported casualties include at least 16 soldiers and 11 civilians. The conflict has displaced tens of thousands of residents in both southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
