NEW DELHI: Bursting espionage racket in the state, Uttar Pradesh's Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) today arrested a suspected ISI agent in Faizabad.

According to news reports, the suspected spy was in constant touch with Pakistan High Commission and had gathered information several Army cantonment area and defence establishment in the state.

"He was in constant touch with Pakistan High Commission," state ATS said in a statement.


"ATS has also detained another person related to espionage activities," Assem Arun, IG, UP ATS said.

According to reports, the suspected spy has been identified as Aftaab Ali and more arrests are likely in the case.

Last month, the state police had issued a warning of a possible terror attack in the state by ISI-trained terrorists.

"The group, allegedly trained by Pakistan's ISI, has reportedly been asked to target Ayodhya, Varanasi, Vrindavan, and the Taj Mahal in Agra," UP police had said.

Following the alerts, security was upgraded at several religious places — including Ayodhya, Kashi and Mathura — and also at vital installations, including airports, bus and railway stations.
