Heightened Security Measures
The US European Command (USEUCOM) announced that they are constantly evaluating security factors. Although specific details were withheld for operational security, USEUCOM assured that they are maintaining vigilance. A US official stationed at a European base noted that this threat level hasn't been seen "in at least 10 years" and typically signifies an "active-reliable threat."
Monitoring and Precautions
Cdr. Dan Day, spokesperson for USEUCOM, emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring to safeguard personnel and their families. He advised them to remain alert at all times. The precise intelligence that triggered the elevated security remains unclear, but there have been warnings about potential terror threats in Europe, especially with the upcoming Paris Olympics and the ongoing European football championships in Germany.
European Security Preparations
In response to these threats, the German government has deployed 580 international police officers to assist in maintaining security during the football tournament. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated, "We are preparing ourselves for all conceivable dangers: from Islamist terror to violent criminals and hooligans."
