The Trump administration plans to impose limits on an Egyptian bank for doing business with Tehran and revoke U.S. financial access to Banque Misr's branches in the United Arab Emirates, a U.S. official told Reuters. The Financial Times earlier reported the forthcoming action.
The official said the proposed rule, if finalized, would revoke Banque Misr UAE's correspondent banking access to U.S. financial institutions.
Treasury officials separately issued sanctions targeting one entity based in Hong Kong and one person linked to Iran's Bank Melli, according to a notice posted on the Department of Treasury's website.
Iran has urged other nations not to join new U.S. sanctions.
